Mediaeval Market
Castle Donington, Derbyshire, England
Held to celebrate May Day--or to be more exact, the May bank holiday (3rd May 2004).
The day starts at around 09.30 with a Town Crier, calling the ancient Charter in his full finery. Young girls dressed and ready to be judged as the year's May Queen travel in state around the village. (Unfortunately, we haven't yet convinced the town to nominate a May King). The market place comes alive to stalls, entertainment, and 'eateries', with many folk dressed in appropriate costume. A great day out, which improves every year.

Abbots Bromley Horn Dance Festival
Not just a day out, this world famous Festival is held over a September weekend, from Saturday morning to reach a climax on the MONDAY with the world famous 'Horn Dance'. There's a gathering in the function room at The Crown Inn in the Market place for 'pagan' social chat, music and stalls: more stalls around the Butter Cross on the Market Place and around the village.
